What success looks like.

  • The Head of Procurement leads all procurement efforts for MassMutual, responsible for managing all vendor spending, regardless of the nature of the operating model (i.e., strategy and execution of sourcing, buying, paying and managing of suppliers)
    • This position will report into to a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
  • This leader will be responsible for the overall procurement strategy and increasing spend under management, identifying and evolving best practices and transforming the organization
  • The Head of Procurement will work with each business and corporate unit to drive proactive planning for direct and indirect sourcing and procurement efforts. This will include working with the internal stakeholders from initial need identification to final goods or service delivery to meet stakeholder needs.
  • This leader will establish relationships with senior leaders to ensure that procurement is aligned with their objectives, and to enlist their support and some of their team in participating in supplier management and improved procurement practices.

What your days and weeks will include.

  • Foundational
    • Creation of value opportunities and ongoing value realization with top supplier base
    • Development of organizational procurement strategy, including management to short, mid, and long-term goals and objectives
  • Organizational
    • Management of procurement staff in (and across) sourcing, contracting, transactional purchasing, supplier management, and miscellaneous internal procurement support activities
    • Leading a talent management process to ensure that the right resources are identified and developed
    • Managing the skills and competency development of procurement staff, including training development and knowledge management capabilities for procurement focused teams across the company
    • Oversight of business process outsourcing activities
  • Value Driving
    • Identification and realization of cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities
    • Management of procurement categories as well as procurement overall
    • Development and enhancement of benchmarks and scorecards to be used for continuous improvement
    • Negotiation for enterprise deals
  • Infrastructure
    • Selection and implementation of procurement systems, in partnership with ETX

The skills that make you a great fit.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, economics, finance, operations, engineering or a related area, with a Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 15 – 20+ years of demonstrated Supply Chain, Procurement, Vendor Management and Risk Management experience
  • Previous experience in the financial services industry preferred
  • Collaboration across functional areas (technology, law and finance) to ensure Procurement best practices are followed

Attributes:

  • Must have a demonstrated track record of instilling positive culture change, productivity improvements, and cost reduction. Thorough knowledge and experience expected within category management, procurement operations, vendor management, strategic sourcing and contract management
  • Team player at executive levels who collaborates with business units and functional partners (i.e., IT, finance, HR, legal)
  • Must have the ability to understand and align with business unit strategies by:
    • Internal demand/process analysis
    • External supply chain analysis
    • Supply strategy selection
    • Supplier selection and integration
    • Relationship structuring and maintenance
  • Excellent communication skills and listening skills enabling the Head of Procurement to understand and empathize with “voice of the internal customer”, to understand the company culture, and to communicate Procurement’s value
  • In-depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices
  • Strong negotiation skills to use for large commercial deals
