This Investigative Consultant will be a part of MassMutual’s Investigations/SIU team responsible for investigating, reporting on and assisting with the prevention and prosecution of known or suspected acts of fraud and other acts of misconduct or wrongdoing committed by or against the Company. The focus of this individual will be on evaluating available data sources, assisting team members in determining data requirements, and conducting data exploration and analysis to synthesize large amounts of information to derive insights that translate into indicators of potential fraudulent activity.

The role also provides an opportunity to investigate a broad spectrum of matters and products including life, annuity, disability and long term care insurance, as well as broker/dealer and investment adviser products and services, retirement services, regulatory and government enforcement issues, account takeover, data privacy, cybersecurity and elder financial abuse. The Investigative Consultant will work closely with business partners and Company attorneys and will be responsible for reporting to and coordinating with regulatory authorities, as appropriate. Overall Responsibilities

  • Conduct timely internal investigations of suspected fraud, misconduct or wrongdoing affecting MassMutual’s various business lines independently and/or at the direction of counsel.
  • Establish strong understanding of data resources across MassMutual and usd all available tools to aggregate and assess relevant information.
  • Concurrently manage a diverse caseload of investigations and consultations including data/document review, analysis, reporting, communication with business partners and file documentation.
  • Identify, analyze and assess potential issues and proactively identify and recommend steps to address and mitigate areas of risk.
  • Work collaboratively with the Investigative/SIU team, business partners and attorneys on investigations and fraud prevention initiatives.
  • Initiate referrals to State Insurance Department Fraud bureaus and other agencies as needed.
  • Interact with state and federal regulators, law enforcement agencies and other special investigative units including responding to request for information.
  • Monitor, communicate and make proactive recommendations based on industry trends and hot topics.
  • Develop, conduct and participate in education and awareness activities as part of anti-fraud training programs.
  • Travel is required; approximately 10-15% of your work time may involve travel.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree preferable, and at least one of the following criteria at a minimum: A bachelor's degree (or an associate’s degree with at least two years insurance related employment) in criminal justice or a related field; or five years of insurance claims investigation experience or professional investigation experience with law enforcement agencies; or seven years of professional investigation experience involving economic or insurance-related matters;
  • Strong technology, data management and data analytics skills
  • Experience conducting investigations, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry, including those related to cyber fraud, data privacy, identity theft and/or elder financial abuse.
  • Expertise in investigative best practices, including the collecting and analyzing of information, interviewing witnesses, interpreting evidence, utilizing relevant technology and reporting findings in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Exceptional judgment, organizational, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, handling moderate to more complex projects and investigations but with a strong commitment to team work, collaboration, cooperation, continuous improvement and sharing of knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize constantly shifting tasks, organize and coordinate work while showing initiative, independence and impeccable judgment.
  • Actively pursues enhancing current skills and learning new ones with a willingness to work on all types of projects/matters.
